How To Straighten Your Teeth
If you’re considering ways to straighten your teeth, there are typically two options to choose from: traditional metal braces or cIear braces such as Invisalign. Both of these methods of teeth straightening have benefits and drawbacks, so we wanted to put together a guide to help you decide the most suitable method of teeth straightening for you.
How Do Braces Help to Straighten Teeth?
Traditional braces are made from metal and typically work over a 12 to 24 month period to straighten your teeth and improve your smile. There are three main components to metal braces: small metal brackets which are bonded to the front surface of your teeth, thin metal archwires to connect these brackets, and small elastic bands (ligatures) which are placed around the brackets. These parts work together to apply gentle pressure to your teeth to move them into position. They are applied after an initial ‘bond up’ appointment and are tightened at regular check-ups to ensure you’re getting the most from your metal braces.

What is Invisalign?
Invisalign treatment is a virtually invisible way to straighten your teeth. Using advanced 3D computer-imaging technology, Invisalign shows you your complete treatment plan based on your Invisalign Provider’s prescription, from the initial position of your teeth towards the final desired position. Then a series of clear aligners are custom-made for your teeth to move them little by little.
Each aligner is worn for about two weeks before being replaced by the next in the series, gradually moving towards the projected final position.
What Are The Benefits of Invisalign?
Invisalign aligners are nearly invisible and typically hardly anyone notices that you’re wearing them. As the aligners are removable, you can eat and drink what you want during treatment by simply removing the aligners. You remove the aligners to brush and floss as you normally would to maintain your usual oral hygiene routine.
The Invisalign System allows you to view your virtual results and treatment plan before you begin treatment, so you can see how your teeth are expected to look when your treatment is complete.
