We understand that not everyone is comfortable seeing a dentist, whether this may be because of a previous bad experience or simply out of fear. We pride ourselves on treating patients in a comfortable, relaxed and pain-free environment. Sometimes, just taking the time to listen to you carefully and understanding your needs and concerns can help with your dental phobia. We feel strongly that involving you in your treatment keeps you in control and provides a stress-free environment. For those who need it, dental sedation is also an option.
What is dental sedation?
IV sedation is an effective method for providing anxiety relief, relaxation and comfort to nervous patients. This involves giving you medication using an injection either in the back of your hand or in your arm. The medications used have a relaxing and calming effect but don’t prevent communication between the dentist and the patient. So treatment can be carried out very easily. Weight, age, and medical conditions must be assessed prior to recommending this form of sedation but we can find out your suitability following a consultation.
How will IV sedation affect you?
Whilst IV sedation has the ability to make you forget the procedure and treatment you have undertaken, you will still be able to communicate with us. You become very drowsy and the medication takes time to wear off. You will not be able to drink alcohol, drive or operate machinery until you have recovered. You would also need someone to bring you and take you home and look after you for the day.
